Monday, May 21- Day 8:
Today we started out the day with a shades tour. What this means is that the tour was given by a homeless woman about the homeless here in Vienna. This was very interesting. We learned about how Vienna treats their homeless and the different services/opportunities that the city provides.
Viennese homeless and American homeless are treated very differently. Viennese homeless can be treated in a medical facility for free and receive up to 6 meals a day free of charge through various organizations. In America, no matter what you receive a fat bill for any medical help. In Vienna the medical bills are paid for by the government (taxes). Before this tour I was in the mind set that a good majority of the homeless people were drug and alcohol users, maybe not before they became homeless but at some point. The tour guide said that only about 35% of the homeless are users, but that is a very popular belief among people.
After the tour we ate lunch at a little café and I had wiener schnitzel, it was so yum. After that we got gelato and went to explore the Hundertwasser-Krawina Haus. This is basically a large building known for its funky exterior.

Schnitzel.....gotta have it at least once while here!
